GRIMES is a network of researchers created in 1990 initially in response to the program "Action concertée de soutien à la recherche en sécurité routière" administered by the Fonds FCAR. Its first main objective was to bring together researchers from many departments at Université Laval who are interested in offering a scientific road safety research program. Within the scope of this program, a series of research projects were conducted between 1990 and 1996 to assist decision-makers in the conception of interventions to reduce the number of road accidents and related injuries. Starting in 1992, the GRIMES expanded its activities to other impacts of the transport system. GRIMES has also provided continuous leadership in the intelligent archiving of important datasets and their analysis through the Automobile Mobility Data Compendium activities.
